Why is reuse gratifying to me? Because it reduces waste and I hate to waste anything. Reuse of scuba gear also pays our business expenses and provides income for staff, family, and our suppliers. I also like the fact that that for every dollar of reused dive gear we sell, 98 cents goes back into our local and national economy.

Reuse is wise to consider for other reasons:

• Reuse reduces the strain on valuable resources such as fuel and forests and water supplies and helps sustain Earth's Oceans
  
• Reuse creates less air and water pollution than making a new item or recycling (reprocessing an item into new raw material for use in a new product)
  
• Reuse results in less hazardous waste
  
• Reuse saves money in purchases and disposal costs
  
• Reuse keeps goods and materials out of wasteful landfills
  
• Reuse preserves the “embodied energy” that was originally used to manufacture an item
  
• Reuse generates new business and employment opportunities for small entrepreneurs and large enterprises
  
• Reuse creates an affordable supply of goods that are often of better quality than what is currently manufactured.
